Tom Blomqvist is set to head to Canada this weekend for the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix which will see him once again team up with Connor de Phillippi in their #25 BMW M8 GTE.
This event will be Tom’s second race weekend in a row, having contested the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen last weekend. Although the #25 car made a promising start to the six-hour endurance race, battling at the top end of the order, the hopes of a class victory disappeared when their car caught fire during a pit-stop for refuelling. While fortunately nobody was hurt, it did, however, force Tom and his team-mate into early retirement.
Despite last weekend’s disappointment, the BMW Team RLL racing driver will be looking to bounce back at the 2.46-mile Canadian Tire Motorsport Park which is just a stone’s throw from Lake Ontario.
“Obviously the result at Watkins Glen was disappointing but we still made progress with our qualifying pace and race pace - that is a positive thing as we head to Canada this weekend,” Tom said.
“The car is feeling better every round, so hopefully all of the hard work will finally pay off with a great result this weekend. The track this weekend should hopefully suit our car, so hopefully, we can be challenging again at the top end for a podium which is what the team deserve!”
The racing schedule will get underway on Friday 5th July with two one-hour practice sessions. Saturday will see a final practice session before qualifying takes place at 17:00 (BST). The two-hour and 40-minute Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented By Acura WeatherTech Championship will commence at 18:05 (BST) on Sunday 7th.
