Jordan Smith up and running in Dubai

22nd January 2018

Jordan Smith registered his first Race to Dubai points of the new season after a solid performance in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last week. Having gotten his season underway a week earlier at the BMW SA Open, the event at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club marked the first event of the season for MB Partners’ entire European Tour contingent as Jordan was joined in the UAE by Chris Hanson and new signing, Alexander Bjork.

The first day’s play was a successful one for the MB Partners trio with Smith carding a level-par opener while Chris Hanson signed for a one-under-par 71 in what was his first competitive round of 2018. The pick of the bunch though was Bjork’s opening round of three-under-par which placed him in the thick of the action in T17 as day two beckoned.

Unfortunately, Chris and Alexander’s progress was halted on day two as the pair departed at the halfway stage of the week, with the Swede missing the cut by just a single shot. This left 25-year-old Jordan Smith as the sole MB Partners’ representative through the weekend’s rounds thanks to a two-under par second round.

The Englishman climbed the leader-board further on moving day as four birdies and an excellent eagle on the eighteenth helped him on his way to his best round of the week, signing for a three-under-par 69 which lifted him up into T44 ahead of the final day’s play.

This was as good as it was to get for Smith though as two lost shots on Sunday meant he dropped back to a total score of three-under par, closing the week in T61. Still though, the week’s play saw the Wiltshire-golfer register his first Race To Dubai points of the year as he looks to follow up his excellent debut year on Tour.

MB Partners’ Head of Golf, Duncan Maxim, was glad to see the stable back out on Tour and was looking forward to a successful few weeks ahead.

“It was great to see Jordan, Chris and Alexander back in action this week. The early events of the season are an opportunity to blow away some of the cobwebs so to speak and I’m sure this week will bode well for the next month or so. The pleasing thing was that each of them showed some really good play in places and I feel we have an exciting year ahead of us.”

There is no rest for the trio as they each return to action this coming week at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club.
