Podium finish for Khaled Saab at Al Forsan

20th November 2018

Khaled Saab ensured that his outstanding start to the season continued, securing an excellent second position finish in Round 3 of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge 2018/19 Championship.

Another outstanding weekend of racing from Saab at the Al Forsan circuit, saw the youngster pick up his second podium of the campaign and further improve his title chances for the 2018/19 campaign in the extremely tight standings.

After an impressive beginning to this seasons campaign, Khaled continued to impress with yet another promising performance behind the wheel. The weekend got off to a promising start for Khaled, qualifying in third position and unluckily missing out on pole position by a narrow margin of 0.281 seconds.

Khaled’s pace continued into the heats where he put in another strong performance, as he enjoyed a hard fought battle for the top spot, but narrowly missed out on 1st position by 1.324 seconds to rival, Jamie Day.

Once again, Saab and Day enjoyed another close fought battle for top spot, this time in the Pre-Final, where Khaled was again incredibly unfortunate to miss out on the top spot, this time only by 0.782 seconds, as the tension grew before the Final.

Unsurprisingly, following the trend of the whole weekend, it was again the pair of Saab and Day who fought fantastically for the overall top spot in the Final of the Junior Max at the Al Forsan track. In yet another epic battle between the pair, it was ultimately Day who came out on top by just over a second. Saab fought valiantly for the top position, and finished a convincing 10 seconds clear of the third positioned driver.

“I'm really happy to secure the second place finish this weekend. The team did a fantastic job with the kart which gave me the confidence going into each of the heats and races. It was a great battle all weekend with Jamie and we were unlucky to not get the win in the final but I can’t wait to go Al Ain next month and hopefully get the win!”

Another excellent weekend of racing Khaled has seen his championship chances improve again, collecting 89 points over the race weekend. All of this means that in the overall championship standings, Khaled has rise into second place on 236 points, leaving him with only a two-point deficit over championship leader, Nadim Khneisser.

The fourth round of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge takes place at the Al Ain Raceway on December 14th and 15th, where Khaled Saab will aim to continue his fine form and round off the 2018 calendar year with a win.
