Tom Blomqvist made it back-to-back podiums in the ‘BMW M6 GT3 this past weekend as he and Philipp Eng drove the #99 Rowe Racing home in second place at the VLN 6 Hour, with their chances of victory ending with a puncture.
Back on his favourite track in the world and teamed up with his fellow Spa 24 Hours victor, Philipp Eng, Tom Blomqvist enjoyed a strong weekend at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife as the pair stood on the podium steps for the second race in a row.
In the #99 Rowe Racing BMW M6 GT3, Tom and Philipp secured a 3rd place start in qualifying after they recorded a 7:56.339-minute lap time around the 20-kilometre circuit, with the team just six-tenths off pole position.
The race started brilliantly for Tom and the team as they dismissed the Falken Motorsport BMW and were in a tight battle for the lead of the race with the Mercedes Black Falcon. With the team looking to be locked in to the fight for the win, the team then had a problem as they sustained a flat tyre after 17 laps, resulting in them losing time and falling out of contention for the race victory.
The team persisted and recorded the fastest lap of the race on their way to a second place finish - marking back-to-back podiums for Tom after his triumph in Spa a month ago.
“It was great to be back at this fantastic track and to finish the weekend on the podium. It’s a shame we had a flat tyre, and that cost us the victory, but we are all happy with second place. The team did a great job like always and I’m already looking forward to the next time I can come back to the Nürburgring!’
