This weekend will see Tom Blomqvist return to his IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship duties as he takes on the third round of this year's championship for the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix At the Long Beach Street Circuit.
Racing in Long Beach, California, for the first time in his career, this weekend’s race will mark Tom’s second appearance of the season in the championship, and he will once again be joined in the #25 BMW M8 GTE of Team RLLR, by teammates Connor De Phillippi and Colton Herta.
Racing will take place around the 1.968-mile street circuit, which presents the teams with a much different challenge to the two previous outings in the championship so far, which has seen drivers tested with two endurance races, rather than the quicker race time of just under two hours in Long Beach this weekend - as well as moving from track racing to a tight street circuit. .
Coming off the back of a strong performance in the VLN Series at the Nurburgring, where Tom claimed pole position, the fastest lap as well as a podium finish, Blomqvist will be hoping for a similarly strong performance this weekend, albeit in a different series and a different BMW machine.
Blomqvist will be hoping to continue the team's strong start in the IMSA campaign, which included an opening weekend win for the RLLR team at the Daytona 12 Hours and Tom’s debut race in the series that resulted in a top-ten finish in Sebring, where Tom shone in the car taking the team as high as second position during his stint.
Excited to return to his IMSA duties at Long Beach, Blomqvist added:
“It’s going to be another competitive weekend of racing on track. After missing out on the opening race, it was great to finally kickstart my IMSA campaign in Sebring where we performed really well as a team and were able to challenge at the front in the wet conditions. It's my first time at Long Beach and it looks like a real tight and difficult circuit, but I'm really excited to get the weekend started.”
Racing at the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix, will begin with the first practice session on Friday 12th at 15:40PM (BST), before qualifying takes place early Saturday morning at 01:40AM, with the race scheduled for 22:05PM on Saturday evening.
