14-year-old Zak O’Sullivan is braced for his next Ginetta Junior Championship outing at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire this weekend as the rookie championship leader, hopes to close the gap in the overall championship fight.
Zak - who is the youngest driver in the field - is currently second in the overall championship standings, and leads the way in the rookie championship by a staggering 77 points. The Douglas Motorsport rising-star has impressed both on and off the track with sterling efforts during the race to earn an array of silverware thus far this season.
So far in his debut year in cars, Zak has shown his talent with five podiums and numerous fastest laps - including a stellar performance in the second race last time out at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire.
This weekend will present a new and exciting challenge for the Jelf-sponsored driver as he heads to North Yorkshire to race at the 2.1-mile Croft Circuit for the first time, so Saturday and Sunday will present an exciting challenge for the youngster.
“As always before a race weekend I’m very excited to see what it’s going to bring,” Zak said. “The car has been feeling great and the set-up has been good at the previous rounds. Now, I really want to push for my first race win and I’m very determined to do that here at Croft.
“The competition in the championship is so incredibly close, but I’m confident that the team and I can pull off a good performance over the weekend. I’m very new to the circuit but I do love a new challenge and hopefully, I can pick up that first overall win!”
The weekend’s action will kick off at 10:55 on Saturday 15 June with practice, before qualifying at 14:40. Race one will be held on Saturday afternoon at 17:40. On Sunday, race two will take place at 13:55 live on ITV4.
