Tom Blomqvist

Back to Motorsport

Tom Blomqvist is the son of a legendary rally driver, Stig Blomqvist, and is an established BMW factory driver still in his early 20's. One of Britain's top racing talents, Tom’s success came as early as his first ever season in single-seaters as he became a race winner in Formula Renault Sweden - after receiving special dispensation to race in the series underage. Moving to Formula Renault UK in 2010, Tom became the youngest-ever Champion in the series in his first year - beating a record set by Lewis Hamilton.

Continuing up the single-seater pyramid, Tom was a regular race winner in German F3 and the F3 Euro Series as he outperformed in his car to pull off some miraculous results. Receiving the support of McLaren F1 (2012) and Red Bull Racing (2013) through his junior years, Tom eventually signed for BMW in 2015 after he finished 2nd in the 2014 FIA European Formula 3, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and behind Esteban Ocon.

Becoming a BMW factory driver, Tom was entered into the DTM series and became a race winner in his debut season as he took victory at Oschersleben to become BMW’s youngest-ever winner in the German touring car series. His highest finish in the championship came in 2016 when he finished the year in 6th place, as the 2nd highest BMW driver and despite being the 2nd youngest driver in the series. Moving on from the DTM at the end of 2017, Tom has appeared in several series representing BMW, including FIA Formula E, FIA WEC, Blancpain GT Series, IMSA and many more.

2018 has been a memorable year so far for British racing talent, Tom Blomqvist. Tom secured the prize of winning the biggest GT race in the world, following his victory at the 24-hours of Spa, with his BMW team. This marked a monumental high point in the drivers’ career to date, as the team went into the race as big underdogs, with many not backing the team to come out with a win. Tom has also secured a hugely impressive second place finish at the 6-Hours of Fuji, in just his second ever race in the World Endurance Championship with BMW.
