Callum Ilott joins UNI Virtuosi Racing for 2020 FIA Formula Two

Callum Ilott has joined UNI-Virtuosi Racing for the 2020 FIA Formula Two Championship as he embarks on his second season in the F1 feeder series.

With his debut season in the FIA Formula Two Championship almost complete, Callum Ilott heads into the final round as a Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver with a pole, a front row start at Monaco and two podium finishes to his name. As the leading Ferrari Driver Academy member in the championship standings, Callum currently sits in 11th position overall as the championship heads to Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, for the season finale this weekend.

Callum’s new outfit, UNI-Virtuosi Racing, has been a front-running team since they joined the series in 2014 (formally GP2), under the Russian Time banner, and currently occupy second in the 2019 team’s standings.

From its base in Norfolk, England, UNI-Virtuosi Racing won the team’s championship in 2017 and has never finished outside of the top-five places in the team’s championship.

Excited to be joining one of the most decorated teams on the grid, Callum is confident that he and the team can be title contenders in 2020.

“I’m really excited to be joining UNI-Virtuosi for 2020! I believe this is the best place for me to fight for the championship title as winning is in the team’s DNA and I share the same hunger for success.
The professionalism within the team, from the management to the mechanics, is second to none and it’s easy to see why they’re always mentioned in the fight for the championship.
The three-day test is the perfect opportunity for me to get to know the team and get up to speed, so when we arrive in Bahrain for the first race we can hit the ground running.”

UNI-Virtuosi Racing team boss Andy Roche added:

"We're very happy to welcome Callum to our team and we are looking forward to working with him. He is a very talented driver and showed the paddock this year just how naturally gifted he is.
Callum’s progress through his maiden season showcased his skill and dedication, and we think that he has the maturity and speed in order to fight for the title in 2020.”

The final round of the 2019 FIA Formula Two Championship takes place this weekend (29 November - 1 December) at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, with Callum getting his 2020 preparations with UNI-Virtuosi Racing underway straight after with a three-day test at the circuit commencing on the following Thursday (5 - 7 December).
