Charlie Martin charges to another class podium in Valencia

VALENCIA

LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO EUROPE - ROUND FOUR

16-17 SEPTEMBER 2023

  • Charlie Martin charged from dead last to the third step of the podium in the opening race of the weekend to claim yet another class podium at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia for round four of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe championship.

  • Looking to build upon the positive start to the season, Charlie and teammate, Jason Keats looked to continue the podium success from the previous round as the championship headed to Spain.

  • Friday's free practice running would be heavily interrupted by wet weather conditions, and Saturday's qualifying session would be cut short after a heavy crash for a competitor.

  • This meant that Charlie was unable to set a lap time and therefore would start from the back of the grid in the opening race of the weekend.

  • Jason would claim P6 in the second session that followed to set the grid for the final race of the weekend.

  • Race one on Saturday afternoon would see Charlie taking the green flag and immediately making gains on those around her from the back of the grid. Charlie would rise to P4 in class before handing over the car to Jason, who drove a brilliant stint to claim P3 and a throughly deserved podium for the pair.

  • Race two on Sunday morning would see Jason make a solid start, before contact with a fellow competitor would force him off track and into the gravel. Unfortunately, the car would sustain damage in the incident and the team were forced to retire the car from the race.

  • Charlie and Jason will return to action in Vallelunga on the 12-13 November 2023 with round five of the championship.

"What a day… from dead last to the podium !! A huge crash early on in qualifying saw the session cancelled without posting a time and starting from last was a bitter pill to swallow after showing good pace in testing.

Carving through traffic was very hectic on the twisty track at Valencia, I handed the car over P4 in class and Jason then drove a stint to be proud of to bring our car home on the podium!

The second race of the weekend on Sunday was one to forget as contact sent us through the gravel and we encountered damage which meant we had to retire the car.

Still a weekend to remember and it shows that you should never give up, no matter the odds! Time to reset once more and go again at Vallelunga in November!"

- Charlie Martin
