Hawkey battles back at Red Bull Ring

  • Esmee travelled to the Red Bull Ring as the Austrian circuit hosted round five of the DTM championship

  • Qualifying P17 on the grid for the first race of the weekend, a resilient Esmee fought hard in the race despite carrying damage from the opening lap

  • Pushing on, she progressed through the field to finish Saturday’s race in P16

  • Returning on Sunday, the 23-year-old qualified P18 but was forced to start the race from the back of the grid after replacing a damaged tyre

  • Displaying similar determination to Saturday, she battled hard throughout the race to climb to P16 by the chequered flag, matching her result earlier in the weekend

“It’s been a tough weekend managing the various issues we’ve had but I’m very pleased with how hard we fought. Thanks to the team for their efforts as we knuckled down in the races and pushed as hard as we could. There’s always opportunities to continue learning and I think we’ve maximised those this weekend and I’m certain that will put us in good stead for the rest of the season. Bring on Assen in two weeks time!”
