Hawkey claims best result of the season at Zolder

  • Esmee travelled to Zolder for round three of the 2021 DTM championship

  • Qualifying P18 on the grid for Saturday’s race, Esmee felt confident of a strong result in the opening event of the weekend

  • Despite spinning at the first corner on the opening lap, the 23-year-old showed strong resilience to fight back through the field

  • Following the mandatory pitstop cycle, Esmee ran in P16 showing good race pace

  • In the closing minutes, the Brit ascended the order further to claim P13 at the chequered flag, her best result of the season

  • Keen to build on her strong performance, Esmee will return tomorrow for the second race of the weekend

“Today was a positive day, we had good race pace and made it count as much as we could. I would’ve liked to qualify a bit higher up so that’s something we’ll work on ahead of tomorrow but our performance in the race was very promising. The spin was unfortunate but that fired me up even more to finish the race strong. A huge thank you to the team as always, we’re continuously improving and moving forwards so I can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow!”
