Hawkey fights back at Lausitzring

  • Esmee travelled to Lausitzring for the second round of the 2021 DTM championship

  • In a close-fought opening qualifying session, Esmee claimed P18 on the grid for the first race of the weekend

  • She quickly began to gain places on the opening lap of Saturday’s race but unfortunately crashed on lap three

  • Returning on Sunday, Esmee qualified P18 on the grid once more and looked forward to making progress through the field

  • Determined to end the weekend on a high, Esmee once again gained places at the start of the race

  • From there, she ran a smooth and well-executed race to claim P16 at the finish

“A mixed weekend for us at Lausitzring but still with plenty of positives to take. Firstly I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the team for turning the car around after the crash on Saturday. My pace was good all weekend, I just needed that little bit extra in turn one.

"Sunday was a much better day obviously, I enjoyed getting stuck in and making a few passes on the opening couple of laps. From there I was just keeping it steady and not taking any risks. With just two weeks until we’re back out at Zolder, I’ll be pushing on as hard as I can to make sure I’m as prepared as possible!”
