Hughes close to the points in Imola

AUTODROMO ENZO E DINO FERRARI - ROUND THREE | 22-24 APRIL

  • The FIA Formula 2 championship took Jake Hughes to the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola for round three of the championship

  • Torrential rain heavily disrupted Friday's running, with Qualifying delayed and run under difficult conditions

  • After initial runs, Jake ran high up the order but as conditions improved late in the session, Jake ultimately qualified P16

  • In the Sprint Race, Jake pushed hard throughout but couldn't progress through the field with a P18 finish

  • In Sunday's dramatic Feature Race, Jake stayed out of trouble in the opening exchanges and opted to run the alternative strategy - staying out as long as he could

  • Running P5 on the road, further virtual and full safety car periods fell against Jake who fell back down the order to P12 upon making his mandatory stop

  • Heading to Barcelona, Jake sits 13th in the championship standings with 14 points

  • The series now heads to Barcelona on 20-22 May

JAKE'S RACE REVIEW

“We were unfortunate with the way things panned out this weekend. Our pace in the first runs of qualifying was positive but we then couldn't match that in the second and that ultimately left us lower down the grid. It's difficult to pass here and that was proven in the Sprint race. We tried to do something different with the strategy in the Feature but the various stoppages meant we could never build the gap we needed. We're feeling positive as we head to Barcelona however and I'm looking forward to getting back out there."
