MONZA - HIGHLIGHTS & FACTS
Jake Hughes returned to FIA Formula 2 with HWA RACELAB at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza
The Brit stepped into F2 machinery for the first time since last year’s Russian Grand Prix and Jake looked forward to getting out on track
On Friday afternoon, he out-qualified his HWA RACELAB teammate and lined up P16 on the grid after originally setting a lap worthy of P11 before falling foul of track limits at the final corner
Keeping his nose clean in the first race of the weekend, Jake avoided the chaos to rise to P12 at the chequered flag
In Saturday’s second sprint race, Jake was forced into an unfortunate retirement after being spun out of the race
Returning for Sunday’s Feature Race, Jake battled valiantly into the top ten and looked set for a strong finish on the medium tyre until a late safety car appearance handed the advantage to the soft tyre runners, meaning he claimed P13
JAKE’S RACE REVIEW
“Firstly I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at HWA RACELAB - it’s been great to reunite with the team and it's always a pleasure to race together. For us, I think the weekend was a case of what could have been from having our lap for P11 deleted in qualifying to the last safety car in Sunday’s race bunching us back together with the guys on soft tyres. But I also think we showed some good potential and I was pleased to be there or thereabouts considering it’s been almost a year since I last drove in FIA F2. Thanks again to the team for their efforts.”
