Hughes primed for FIA F2 debut at Sochi

Jake Hughes is primed to make his FIA Formula Two debut at Sochi Autodrom in Russia, stepping up to the series from FIA Formula 3 with BWT HWA RACELAB.

The Brit closed his FIA F3 campaign in style in Mugello with a second-place podium finish and steps into the team’s #17 car this weekend, replacing Giuliano Alesi. Working with the team for the past two seasons in FIA F3, Jake claimed eight podiums and three victories.

Navigating around the heart of the Sochi Olympic Park, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, the 3.634-mile Sochi Autodrom circuit has proved a successful setting for Jake - as he claimed the FIA F3 race lap record at the track as well as fourth place at last year’s event.

Having completed a season of nine races in eleven weeks, Jake is more than prepared to get the weekend underway and experience his first taste of FIA F2 machinery.

With temperatures expected to reach 30ºC on Sunday, conditions look set to offer a challenge for both driver and car.

“I’m very excited to be making my FIA F2 debut this weekend and a huge thanks to HWA RACELAB for giving me the chance. It’ll be a new challenge and very different compared to F3 but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and learning as much as I can. I enjoy Sochi and have claimed a couple of top-ten finishes over the past couple of years so I’m sure I’ll be up to speed with the track before long and that will allow me to focus my attention on the car.”
