OULTON PARK
ROKiT BRITISH FORMULA 4 CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND FIVE
17-18 JUNE 2023
Kanato Le recorded a victory, two fastest laps, and a double front row qualifying performance in a sensational showing at Oulton Park and departs 4th in the ROKiT British F4 Championship drivers' standings.
The weekend got off to a strong start for the Japanese youngster in Friday's practice sessions as Kanato finished both sessions in the top-five places, finishing in P5 and P3 respectively.
In Saturday's qualifying session, Kanato would secure his best qualifying result of the 2023 season, so far, as he recorded two front-row starts with his fastest and second-fastest laps rewarding him with second place.
Lining up on the front row, race one saw Kanato launch off the line and snatch the lead of the race before turn one.
In a dominant performance, Kanato recorded the fastest lap of the race as he crossed the finishing line to take his second victory of the season.
The second race of the weekend saw Kanato start in P21 for the reverse grid race.
In the race that followed, Kanato would once again showcase his ability in the car to charge through the field and gain seven places - crossing the finishing line in P14 at the fall of the chequered flag.
Lining up from the front row once again for the final race, Kanato replicated his fantastic launch for race one and took the lead of the race.
Controlling the race, and setting the fastest lap, Kanato began stretching his lead at the front before disaster struck.
Picking up a puncture on the fifth lap, Kanato was helpless as he fell down the order and to the back of the field.
Despite the final race, Kanato's weekend rewarded him 34 points, the joint most of any driver that weekend, to sit 4th in the drivers' standings on 134 points, trailing the leader by just 27 points.
Next up for Kanato is the home of British Motorsport as he takes to Silverstone this weekend (24-25 June).
"It feels great to come away from Oulton Park with another win, double front row qualifying and a brace of fastest laps in the books. It could have been even better before the puncture meant that we couldn’t secure that second win in race three, but the pace is definitely there and we're getting stronger every weekend.
The car felt brilliant all weekend so a massive thank you to the Hitech team for all of their efforts! A massive thank you to MB Partners, Elliot Harvey and my family as always - I can't wait to go again at Silverstone this weekend! "
