Japanese racer Kanato Le recorded his first-ever pole position in round seven of the season before managing some poor luck to secure points finishes in all of the weekend's races
Kanato kick-started his weekend in fine form as he secured his first-ever pole position in the weekend's qualifying session - securing a P1 starting position for the first race of the weekend. Kanato's second fastest time dealt him a P2 starting position for race two of the weekend
Starting from pole position in race one, Kanato delivered a fantastic race performance as he dominated the race until the final lap when a competitor's over-optimistic lunge on Kanato resulted in contact and sent Kanato to the back of the field from where he had to settle for P17 at the chequered flag
In the second race of the day, Kanato was once again running strongly just outside the podium places when for the second time in as many races he was dive-bombed on the final lap, resulting in contact and dropping Kanato down the order to 7th place at the flag
Kanato's 7th place finish meant that he secured a P3 podium finish in the rookie classification
In the final race of the weekend, Kanato started on the fourth row on the grid and progressed up the order with some fantastic driving to be running in 4th place and locked in a four-way battle for the lead of the race
Kanato then pulled off a sublime move for the lead of the race but was unfortunately squeezed out by a competitor and fell back to P5
However, Kanato's bad luck did not end there as he was then tagged from behind and spun out into the gravel. He was able to continue but way down the order and took the finish from P12
This weekend's showing sees Kanato remain 8th in the Drivers' Championship with 256 points - after collecting 30 points across the weekend - and still occupies 3rd in the Rookie Cup
The Japanese racer is back in action in less than a month's time as the Ginetta Junior Championship heads to Silverstone National for round eight of the campaign (September 24 - 25)
“This weekend was a real mix of emotions. My first-ever pole position was a really special feeling and a memory that will stay with me for a very long time. Unfortunately in the races, we did not have any luck. Taken out by my competitors in every race, including from the lead of race one, is a bitter pill to swallow. However, we can take many positives from this weekend as the car was so quick in qualifying and the races - so that fills me with confidence heading to the last two rounds of the season. I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Elite Motorsport, MB Partners, Elliot Harvey & Jake Hill for all of their help this weekend - we will bounce back stronger!"
