Misfortune for Hughes in Monte Carlo

  • The FIA Formula 2 championship took to the streets of Monte Carlo for the fifth round of the season

  • A positive opening day on Thursday saw Jake claim the fourth fastest time in free practice, just 0.070s off the quickest lap

  • In Friday's qualifying, Jake had recorded the fifth fastest time in his group before a heavy crash at the Swimming Pool complex ended his session with the Brit unharmed

  • With reverse-grid pole position for the Sprint Race, Jake headed the field on Saturday afternoon

  • Misfortune would strike again however as his car stalled at the race start, forcing him back into the pit lane before joining the race at the back of the pack and finishing P18

  • Returning for Sunday's Feature Race, Jake started from P10 on the grid and rose to P9 on the opening lap

  • After making his mandatory pit stop, an ill-timed safety car jumbled the order and dropped Jake to P13 at the chequered flag

  • Heading to Baku, Azerbaijan on 10-12 June, Jake sits 17th in the championship standings with 14 points

“It wasn't the weekend we wanted or hoped for coming into it. It started really well in practice and I felt good in the car. I'm gutted with how it panned out and I'm sorry to all of the team for not being able to translate their incredible work into a good result. We'll dust ourselves off and come back stronger in Baku."

- Jake Hughes
