MOTUL COURSE DE MONTEREY POWERED BY HYUNDAI N IMSA ROUND FOUR | WEATHERTECH RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA | MAY 13 - 14
Tom Blomqvist is back in action this weekend with Meyer Shank Racing, looking to reignite his championship challenge at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as he heads to California to contest the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the MOTUL Course De Monterey Powered By Hyundai N. Tom will be teaming up with regular Meyer Shank Racing teammate Colin Braun to pilot the #60 Acura ARX-06 in the lead GTP class in what is the second WeatherTech Sprint Cup race of the season. In the previous sprint race at Long Beach, Tom placed the car on P2 after a successful qualifying session before a rival sent him spinning at the first bend, compromising the team's race. The scenic 2.238 mile circuit, which features the iconic Corkscrew turn, is a track that Tom enjoys and has been a happy hunting ground for him in the past. Last year, he secured a podium finish with MSR after finishing second, as well as recording a fifth place finish in the GTLM class back in 2019. Heading into the weekend, the 2022 IMSA Champion finds himself in 8th position in the IMSA Driver Standings with a total of 743 points with six races left to contest. The on track action begins on Friday with the first free practice session at 19:05 (ET). A second practice session will take place on Saturday morning, with qualifying later that day at 15:55. Sunday's race is scheduled to begin at 15:10. For live TV Coverage and commentary of the race, visit IMSA.com/tvlive.
“We’re coming off of two races that haven't really gone to plan. Laguna is going to be a track that we are going to need to reset at so we can get back on track for the championship hunt. Laguna is a track that I really enjoy, it’s a beautiful part of the country. We have no references going into the weekend - the GTP cars are all new going into this year. But Acura, HPD and MSR have done such a fantastic job with the car that I am pretty confident that we can fight for victory. That's going to be the goal - win the race and get our championship back on track."
